Sacrificing the Childrens Future @Education, by Nazreen Fazal

How many of our of kids lose themselves at the production line that is school; expected to excel in things they have no interest or aptitude in and punished when they fall short in an arbitrary competency marking scale?

How many of our students hate books because they were thrown at their faces for a spelling mistake or an incomplete answer?

How many children fear speaking up because every time they opened their mouths they were told they are wrong since it isn't in the text books?

How many children know algebraic equations by heart but cower in front of real life problems?

How many children's innate curiosity and imagination is snuffed out everyday under the pressure to score more than the neighbour Sharma's kids?

How many potential writers, painters, social workers and entrepreneurs were sacrificed to amass engineering and medical degrees?

How many children sacrifice every waking hour to realise their parents' dream of a professional degree?

How many children are made to believe that a 9-5 desk job is the ultimate success they can achieve in life?

Answer just this one question, if nothing else:

How many more children's spirits will we sacrifice at the altar of "education"?

What have we done?

What are we doing?

What can we do now?

Important: who is Going to ensure the Right and Most appropriate process Being followed by Parents, Teachers and Society.

Education and GDP

The Indian economy can clock an addition of four per cent in the growth rate if everyone is educated over the next 10 years, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi said.

"If we educate everyone over the next 10 years, then ourGDP growth rate will be higher by four per cent. The path to sustained economic growth rate lies in quality education," he said while addressing a conference of the Rotary India Literacy Mission.

He described illiteracy as the biggest impediment to the growth of any country.

Identifying apathy, fear, and intolerance as the three biggest enemies before the world now, he regretted that today's youths are more intolerant and impatient than their preceding generation.

"Intolerance is also growing globally among children. Today's youth are not so tolerant as you were in your past. They do not have that much of patience," Satyarthi said.

Besides intolerance, he said, the two other serious enemies before the world are apathy and fear.

"There is competition everywhere, whether in office or elsewhere. This is narrowing our minds and we are being apathetic to our neighbours," he said, adding that terrorism results into fear across the globe.

Satyarthi said education was the answer to the ills as it could bring in virtues like empathy, ethics, and excellence.

He said as long as children remain the cheapest source of labour, adults would remain jobless.

On Rotary India's mission to eradicate illiteracy from the country, he promised he and his organisation would work with the Rotarians to ensure additional one lakh children go to school every year.

  • Future of Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is both an art and a science. Successful marketing comes from collecting, analyzing and using data about when and where customers spend their time. In short, data is behavior. Learning from this behavior drives creative messaging and strategic campaigns. Tracking behavior and tapping into the emotional connection through messaging, ads, social, and design makes all the difference in the digital space.

The massive Indian market is changing fast. Internet access is mainstreaming among professionals and the use of mobile is intensifying. The pace of change continues to be rapid with digital channels constantly growing in volume and strength. More people spend more time online in India every year, and the digital tools and sites they use play an ever-growing role in their lives. Smart marketers keep on top of the scale of change and ensure their marketing strategies and touchpoints mirror where the consumer is spending their time. These notes give a sense of the scale of change we’ve seen so far and implies the scale of what is coming.

    Social engagement is key.

There's a lot to be learned from your audience online. You'll get honest feedback on campaigns and messaging, for one. Incorporating your fans' interpretation and opinion of your brand can get you both fresh content and loyal fans. Create incentive for fans to write, tweet, take photos, share videos, etc. Reward them for their participation and loyalty by giving them the spotlight in your campaign.

Think holistic strategy, rather than specific tactics. Each social channel, blog post, email, weblink must have a purpose and drive towards something. Never post simply to post. Without engagement or traffic, those posts are a waste of time and money. Get an understanding of your target market and their previous journeys. If they simply aren't on Twitter or don't interact on Facebook, cut it from your strategy. Focus your efforts without diluting resources; only do what is working and do it with all you've got.

As a brand, join in on the engagement. It's not enough to listen to your audience; respond and interact. Market specifically to individuals who are reaching out and talking about you. Give your audience something to love and share. Have fun with your marketing and open yourself up to build loyalty and connection.

    Inbound Marketing

Inbound marketing refers to marketing activities that bring visitors in, rather than marketers having to go out to get prospects' attention. Inbound marketing earns the attention of customers, makes the company easy to be found, and draws customers to the website by producing interesting content.

Sharing is caring and inbound is about creating and sharing content with the world. By creating content specifically designed to appeal to your dream customers, inbound attracts qualified prospects to your business and keeps them coming back for more.

Inbound marketing is promoting a company through blogs, podcasts, video, eBooks, enewsletters, whitepapers, SEO, physical products, social media marketing, and other forms of content marketing which serve to attract customers through the different stages of the purchase funnel. In contrast, buying attention, cold-calling, direct paper mail, radio, TV advertisements, sales flyers, spam, telemarketing and traditional advertising are considered "outbound marketing". Inbound marketing refers to marketing activities that bring visitors in, rather than marketers having to go out to get prospects' attention. Inbound marketing earns the attention of customers, makes the company easy to be found, and draws customers to the website by producing interesting content. Many companies are now realizing that their technical documentation, often considered a "necessary evil", is authoritative, trustworthy content that can be a company's most effective inbound marketing channel, generating more than half of overall site traffic and over half of lead generation.

Inbound Marketing: Inbound marketing is permission-based marketing. There are two premises here:
First, communicate via mediums in which the audience has given you permission to communicate.
Second, answer the questions people are asking and proliferate those answers around the web in anticipation of the question.

Both of these premises are permission-based.
In the first method, the audience is smaller in numbers than mass media, but because the audience is inherently more friendly and has already raised their hand to get your messages, the audience coverts at a 750% higher rate than interruption-based marketing.

Examples: subscription based email marketing, social media, blog subscribers, webinar attendees, etc.
In the second method, the numbers are virtually limitless, since your audience online is infinite. Thanks to targeting keywords, you can answer the questions prospects might be asking about your products and your industry. Since this audience is looking for the answers that you are proliferating throughout the web, the conversion rates are unparalleled.

Examples: SEO, keyword targeting, landing page strategy, content/blog strategy, etc.
An example of permission-based marketing that will put inbound into context is the Yellow Pages. Before websites, subscription-based email and blog subscriptions, the Yellow Pages was one of the few places you could advertise where prospects were actually looking for you and you weren’t interrupting them. Yellow Pages was so successful that companies would name themselves AAA or ABC to be at the top of the listings. In 2001, Vital had a $10,000 a month Yellow Pages marketing budget, buying enhanced listings (bold) and an ad in every book from Boston, MA to Portland, ME.  Why? Because it worked, and there was an undoubted ROI.

    Reverse-Engineering... Education

Education researcher Sugata Mitra has won 2013's million-dollar Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) Prize with his 'Hole in the Wall' experiment, showing slum children learning to work a computer and teaching each other minus adult supervision. Speaking with Pratigyan Das, Mitra discussed the dynamics of this venture in India, the radical potential it offers  and how our educational system apparently persists in trying to produce clerks for an empire long gone:

What is the 'Hole in the Wall' experiment about?
Well, i wanted to prove that kids can be taught computers very easily without any formal training. This is about teaching without any kind of supervision — in other words, the acquisition of basic computing skills by any set of children can be achieved through incidental learning, provided the learners are given access to a suitable computing facility with entertaining and motivating content and some minimal human guidance.
Since 1982, i had been toying with the idea of unsupervised learning through computers. Finally, in 1999, i decided to test my idea. On January 26, 1999, i and my team members carved a hole in the wall that separated the NIIT premises from the adjoining slum in Kalkaji, Delhi. Through this hole, a freely accessible computer was put up for use — this computer proved to be an instant hit among the slum-dwellers, especially the children.
Interestingly, the children learnt to use the computer on their own.

How did you come up with this idea?
By observing children of affluent parents who had computers, teaching themselves to use these.

Would you say we don't need teachers anymore?
No  but teachers need to change their pattern of teaching. They need to frame questions that children can research and learn from by themselves without any help.

What about teachers' role in fostering links between children and ensuring discipline?
Well, these were very useful tasks in Victorian England and India about 200 years ago in a very boring setting  not any more.

Can your project work in India where there's no access to computers  or even electricity  for many?
It was discovered in India! This is not a problem, there`s broadband and mobiles in almost all places in India. I feel like cable TV, this will solve its own problems. Entertainment can be a more powerful driver than poverty.

How does literacy work here do children need to know some English to follow a computer?
They need to know some basic English  but even if they don`t, they pick up a smattering in months if they`re allowed to work in unsupervised groups and we stay out of their way.

How do you view our current educational system?
The Indian education system, like the Indian bureaucratic system, is Victorian and still in the 19 th century. Our schools are still designed to produce clerks for an empire that does not exist anymore.
We don`t need to improve our education system — we need to reinvent it.

And what are the opportunities your study offers India?
This could play an important role towards levelling the playing field between the affluent and the poor, quickly, effectively and cheaply. All continents are paying attention. Everybody is interested in self-organised learning  they can see a generation doing it anyway and all the time with their mobile phones.

To do with Facebook or to do with Twitter?

Which platforms are most relevant to my business now? Is it Facebook, is it Linked-in or is it Twitter? Which site should I use for polling? Where should I post a job? Often the marketer is confused with these questions.

Let us come to the purpose of group first.

PM launches Start-up India movement, unveils action plan for encouraging Start-ups

The Union Budget 2016 remained faithful to the Startup India Action Plan announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month. From the three-year tax holiday to easing up on capital gain tax, the Budget document merely lent a touch of official sanction to the key proposals to the Startup India Action Plan.

While it is not exactly part of action plan, this probably is the biggest positive change that has been bought by the Government – Defining the phrase ‘Startup’. Now, Startups will be ‘Startups’ and not a ‘Business’. Till date a Startup was not separated in various policies of the Government. All were businesses. Now, we have definition for a startup and a clear direction for them from Government.

The most encouraging aspect is that Government is now looking at startups as a serious growth engine for India and want to help them achieve success.

Government wants to reduce the regulatory burden on Startups thereby allowing them to focus on their core business and keep compliance cost low. Startups shall be allowed to self-certify compliance (through the Startup mobile app) with 9 labour and environment laws (refer below). In case of the labour laws, no inspections will be conducted for a period of 3 years.

With Startup India Hub, Govt wants to create a single point of contact for the entire Startup ecosystem and enable knowledge exchange and access to funding. They will work in a hub and spoke model and collaborate with Central & State governments, Indian and foreign VCs, angel networks, banks, incubators, legal partners, consultants, universities and R&D institutions.

Govt will also help startups through their lifecycle with specific focus on important aspects like obtaining financing, feasibility testing, business structuring advisory, enhancement of marketing skills, technology commercialization and management evaluation

    New Incentives for Startups
    • Self certification compliance
    • No Inspection for first 3 years
    • No Tax on profits for first 3 years
    • Mobile App for start-up registration in one day
